Snorkeling with Pointed Snout Crocodiles
There are places where you shouldn't just jump into the water! The small fishing village I visit in Mexico is one of those places. In the lagoon here, about four hundred pointy-nosed crocodiles swim around. These juggernauts can grow up to five meters long, so I have to be very careful.
Giga dangerous
Swimming with crocodiles has always been a dream of mine. Of course, you have to know what you're doing, because with 58 to 72 razor-sharp teeth and more than 400 pounds of muscle, these guys are life-threatening. So I get lessons on how best to snorkel with them. The most important rule: never turn your back on a crocodile! In the lagoon, these crocodiles are the boss and everyone knows it. So just to be safe, I'm given a long stick.
"Pointed muzzle crocodiles can live up to 70 years," he said.
Heat Plan
Female beaked crocodiles build a nest to lay their eggs in. Sometimes they use a communal nest for that and sometimes they don't. This varies completely from one crocodile group to another. After about 2.5 months, the eggs hatch. And what is very special is that the temperature determines whether the babies are male or female. If it is very hot or very cold, they will be females. But if the temperature is around 31.3 degrees, then you only get males. How bizarre is that?
