Whales
I will never forget my encounter with a humpback mother and her calf! Near the Galapagos Islands I was swimming, meters underwater ... and there she was. Gorgeous! What a huge animal. And yet so graceful the way she moved through the water. It gave me goose bumps. I find it incomprehensible that whalers can shoot these animals with dry eyes ....
Whaling banned. The most bizarre thing is: whaling has been banned worldwide since 1986. But there is a catch: whales may be caught and killed for scientific purposes. And the remaining meat can be sold. So many whalers pretend to hunt for science but in reality illegal whaling continues. Each year the hunters kill at least 1,000 whales and sell the meat on the illegal market.
Extremely cruel. The hunting of whales is extremely cruel. First, the animals are hunted until they are exhausted. Then the whalers shoot the fish several times with harpoons. These only injure the animals; the harpoons are not strong enough to kill the whales. The wounded whales are then dragged to the ship, where they are either shot with heavy artillery or held underwater with their blowhole so that they suffocate. Whales can lower their breathing and heart rate, which often keeps them alive for a long time and causes them excruciating pain. That can't go on like this, can it?
